Mrs. Eltaher’s school in Alexandria ‘Sœurs de la Miséricorde de Saint Vincent de Paul’ nuns school in the early 1930s. The building was still in use as of 2010 as the area School Board office.
Postcard letter from Sister Anne-Marie to Mrs. Eltaher after she had left the school to become a teacher in Iraq in 1934 during the reign of King Ghazi. The Director of Education in those days was Fadhel Al-Jamali, who eventually became Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iraq under King Faisal II. In later years Al-Jamali and Mr. Eltaher became friends, and his son Abbas was a school mate of Eltaher’s son Hassan at the American University of Beirut!
